If your focus is on what’s wrong with the marketplace, and you’re caught up in the illusion that there’s no way you can succeed because of an overcrowded market, that’s full of young people who don’t know photography, then that is the reality that you create. You will live inside of that fantasy and your business will suffer.

If your focus however, is on developing the most competitive body of work you can produce and you then take the necessary steps needed to consistently sell and market your work, then you are laying the groundwork for the success that you seek.

    • Happy to share what I know with the community. Knowledge is power:)

  3. Great words as always Selina. What we put our energy on is what grows, so focus on the positive!

    • Exactly Jordan. it is true that we are our attention, so lets place it where it will serve !

  4. Absolutely true, as in Lissa Rivera’s recent body of work “Beautiful Boy” When she first revealed her project to the public, people were discouraging, telling her that too many artists were doing gender based work. Luckily, she did not pay mind to their comments, and “Beautiful Boy” has been a smashing success, and deservedly so. No matter what the endeavor, there will always be a sea of people pursuing the same thing. But to have a unique perspective, and to execute it well, is not available to everyone.

    • Excellent example Linda. In the world of art having a voice was tantamount to being noticed. In the world of commercial photo clients at every level in all geographic locations are demanding vision. That’s a very good thing!

  5. I agree completely. It’s about your ambitions and the confidence that you have within you. Your superior knowledge and talent wins out every time.
