  3. These are great, always been a fan of his work.

  4. Janet Froelich,

Why did you decide to include a smiling woman in a cleaning article?
Where did the idea come from?
How is she still there in the future?
If you are a woman, why didn’t you put a man there instead?

  5. uhm, wow, regardless of what a good photographer dan winters is (and i think he’s great), these photos BEG for some gender and cultural analysis. SERIOUSLY? why didn’t the art direction just call for women who are barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen?

    • Pardon my befuddlement. Real Simple is a magazine read primarily by women, so it tends to feature women.

In the past, house cleaning was done by women so it starts there. To keep it consistent they update the tools and her appearance. I don’t see any gender issues; it’s consistency in the art direction. I find it odd you equate this with the stereotypical “barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen”. It prevents a neutral reader from taking you seriously.

FWIW future woman isn’t doing the cleaning, her robot is.

  6. I’m not even a stickler for political correctness, but this isn’t even fun or ironic. It’s de-evolution at it’s finest.

  7. Thanks for the post, it was a fun story and Dan was great to work with. One correction though, my name is Brian not Brain haha.
