Original quote is actually from Clayton Cubitt, I believe:

All it takes to be a photographer is an index finger (/sarcasm).
All it takes to be a photographer is a middle finger.
So, as the good and bad cancel each other out, what he is saying is “there has never been as much photography as there is now”.
I don’t really think that is very profound.
Everyone is a photographer. I am. My mother is.
My mother uses a very simple, £70 digital camera (the most basic one we could find), and more often than not takes photos of her granddaughter (my niece). A lot of them are terrible, they are captured memories. Some of them are fantastic. Really good. Happy accidents and the decisive moment.
I use a £1000 DSLR to take photos of, well, lots of things. I’d like to think I wasn’t completely terrible.
Why does photography have to be a special thing? It’s not.
