    • @James,
Right. Not saying other lists don’t exist just saying this one is nicely designed, aimed at a specific market and is something anyone can put together over a weekend or two.

  1. Seems well done in that there is someone taking the photos of the assistants, meaning there’s got to be some kind of filter to make it on the site.

  2. @James

    Everyone loves a hater! ;(

  3. Great new site that puts a face to the name and experience. It’s brought to you by Raoul at Flashlight Photo rental. He’s a big promoter of photography in the Twin Cities area and beyond and also an excellent photographer.

  4. Nice…

Build an app! Is there an app for assistants?
I could have used this on my iphone last week, as an assistant canceled last minute, and I was in the field.

  5. another great idea from Raoul.
    thanks.

  6. The website navigation is differently better. Any chance there will be an NYC version?

    • @Kah Hoe Wan, I bet you could put one together : )

  7. Wow, only 9 first assistants and 3 second assistants in Minneapolis / St. Paul! I should tell the million assistants trying live and work in Portland to move there. ;)

ASMP has a find an assistant site, too. http://asmp.org/find-an-assistant

    • @Lincoln Barbour, an assistant is only listed on the ASMP Search if they are an ASMP member. Unfortunately not every assistant in Minneapolis/St. Paul is an ASMP dues paying member. The Minneapolis chapter used to have a free listing service but they no longer provide that service, so this new site is a great way to get that kind of network for assistants back up and running.

  8. i have been looking for some very good lighting photo assistant for editorial / catalog work. this should really help

  9. dang, I’ve been working on something just like this for chicago, down to the black and white portraits and everything.

  10. Raoul deserves enormous kudos for all that he has done in MSP to help the photo community recharge their batteries after some troubled times. He has been a personal inspiration to me and many other assistants and photographers, both near and far. If you are a shooter coming to MN to shoot, you can definitely count on Raoul, Flashlight, and all his colleagues to help your shoot be a great success!

  11. I second the nod to Raoul. I am in the middle of my first job utilizing his services and could not be happier. Well done man.

  12. THATS RIGHT! FLASHLIGHT REPRESENT!

  13. Amazing,
you people act like an assistant list on-line is something new.
http://www.1prophoto.com has been doing this for free for the photo community for the last 13 years. And it’s run by 1 guy and not a corporation.
When I was assisting and later teching I got a good deal of work from having my listing on their site. Now as a photographer I use their site because it offers the most complete listings and if can always get a personal recommendation for a tech or assistant by emailing James the owner of the site. Imagine that a web site that offers customer service.

Just thought I’d add my .02$ to counter all of the other posts that are clearly self promotion populated by friends of Raul. Who incidentally is trying to charge $500.0 a year to assistants in order to be listed on his new site.

Props to James for continuing to think about the photo community and not filling his pockets off of the labors of others.

    • @George Bennett, Hey George, I hate to break it to you, but most of the listings on the 1prophoto site are extremely out of date and there are way too many listings on there to go through to find someone on short notice.

You should contact Assistant List because you’d also find great costumer service with them as well. Beyond that, if you contacted the Assistant List you would find out that a huge portion of what each assistant pays goes towards advertising for all the people on the list, it’s a form of collective marketing that none of them could afford on their own. You won’t see adds for 1prophoto in PDN. If you’re a working photographer you know that it takes money to make money.

This is a business just like any other and there is nothing wrong with someone running a business that helps other people further their own goals.

      • @Clark Patrick, Beyond that – there are 15 people now working full time for the Assistant List… If you’re an assistant looking for work, where would you rather be – on an out of date free listing site, run by one person, or on a site run as a business by a full time staff with advertising dollars behind it? Jame’s listing can always be a place for anyone/everyone to sign-up and the Assistant List is a premium service. You get what you pay for.
