Mikhail Prokhorov — whose wealth is estimated at around $22 billion — plans to spend $150 million setting up a magazine, website and television station called Snob, the general director of the new venture told Reuters on Wednesday.

“It’s for people who are successful and those who want to be successful,” said Andrei
Shmarov, who will run Snob.

  1. Isn’t that a bit last year? Surely the super-rich must by now be in hiding, hoping the food rioters and sub-prime evictees can’t find them? Won’t that make distribution awkward?

  2. have to see if they need a snobby photo editor

  3. If I understand the demographic, they’ll be offering photo credits and “great exposure” in exchange for content. Failing that, they’ll be getting pick up from the microstocks ;)

  4. Snob. A person who imitates, cultivates, or slavishly admires social superiors and is condescending or overbearing to others.

I wanted to say something clever, but I cannot top the “snobby photo editor” comment…

  5. If I tell the editor the photographer refuses to fly anything but first class, needs two Cadillac SUV’s, will only stay in the four seasons and wants lunch catered by Nobu how can he possibly refuse snobby requests like that.

  6. Young Russian billionaires rage from fantastic profits connected with natural resources.. I from time to time photograph corporate orders from similar firms, age of such rich people of 35-45 years.. Soon such rates they will overtake (-if any more have not overtaken) the Arabian sheikhs in entertainments and lux life.. All this is very strange (-very many questions about with their business), and to add there is nothing..

  7. That’s hilarious. At least he’s being honest with the title. I’ve seen several mags that could have the same name.

  8. I just received a sample of the premiere issue of “Players Club” a hefty high-gloss magazine with a highly targeted audience of pro athletes. The focus appears to be ways for these athletes to spend all the ridiculous amounts of money they are making. It is the brainchild of Former Met/Phillie Lenny Dykstra and published by Doubledown media.

Time’s Mary Anne Golon is listed as Consulting DOP and DOP is Lila Garnett.

Cover story is of Derek Jeter and was shot by Sam Jones (who also shot an inside Fashion spread).

  9. Mikhail Prokhorov?

    pffff….

i could buy him. and never use him.
